What is an Emergency?

An emergency is an accident or sudden illness.

Your regular veterinarian should treat an illness that does not have a sudden onset. Routine vaccinations, worming, neutering, etc. will not be performed at VHA’s Emergency Center.

It is an emergency if you notice any of the following symptoms in your pet:

  • Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Persistent cough
  • Persistent sneezing
  • Pale gums
  • Rapid, shallow breathing
  • Excessive thirst
  • Excessive urination
  • Straining to urinate
  • Abnormal nasal discharge
  • Labored breathing
  • Sudden, severe lameness
  • Convulsive seizure
  • Bitch in prolonged labor
  • Suspected poisoning
  • Bleeding
  • Injury
  • Abdominal Bloating
  • Hit by Car
  • Severe facial swelling and/or hives

If you notice any of these signs, call us at (863) 324-3340 immediately! We see emergencies 24 hours a day and all signs of emergencies should be treated accordingly. Do not wait for the condition to worsen.
